[3.5/5] Stanton Moore is one hell of a drummer. He kicked Corrosion Of Conformity into gear on their last studio disc, In The Arms Of God, infusing their stoner metal with a killer dose of badass biker-rock groove. But he's best heard propelling NOLA's own movable feast of whiteboy funk, Galactic. On this album, they're backing a bunch of rappers one must assume they met on the jam-band festival circuit: Lyrics Born, Mr. Lif, Gift Of Gab, Lateef The Truthspeaker, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, Boots Riley of the Coup and Ladybug Mecca, formerly of Digable Planets. But hometown boys like Juvenile and the Soul Rebels Brass Band, Big Chief Monk Boundreaux and Trombone Shorty of Kermit Ruffins' Rebirth Brass Band (until you hear them, your life's woefully incomplete) also appear. There are gems and duds, but overall this is a fine and successful experiment that'll kick-start any social gathering. (ANTI-) Phil Freeman Official Website: http://www.anti.com
