MxPx - PanicPosted by Scott Heisel on 22-Nov-05 @ 04:04 PM
[4]As they did for their seminal album Life In General, MxPx had to head back into the studio twice to nail the right vibe for Panic, their first album since parting ways with A&M. However, Life was calmer and poppier compared to this more-in-your-face collection of tunes. As usual, MxPx are at their best when they're pissed off or depressed; that's why we finally hear the band pull off their best mosh song since the now-anthem "Punk Rawk Show" with "Get Me Out," a thrash/screamo-edged tune that drops the typical MxPx melody and leaves lead singer Mike Herrera heading into Geoff Rickly-ville. Before Panic, MxPx looked as though they were going to be stuck in nostalgia-land, having to play hits from three records ago. However, now that they're finally out from under the bean counters and hit-demanders, the band have been reborn into a fresher, tighter and more aggressive act than they've been in recent memory. (Herrera actually sounds younger, too.) While punk trends come and go, MxPx aren't planning on going away anytime soon.
