Ambience trumps obviousness.
Aereogramme - My Heart Has A Wish That You Would Not Go
[4.5/5] Aereogramme are masters of subtlety. They employ plenty of soaring vocals, shimmering chord progressions and tactful drumming in their sound, but it's during the more reserved moments the band truly show their talents. Cliché as it may be to say, it's all about the atmosphere. Moreso on My Heart Has A Wish That You Would Not Go than any prior releases, as this album expands on the lighter side of their songwriting. There are no walls of distortion or crunching riffs; this time, they've traded all that for the beauty of Craig B.'s vocals and understated ambience. Craig's gorgeous delivery on "Exits" and the epic rise-and-fall found on "Living Backwards" is evidence the band are finally comfortable with their place in the world. A journey from every gorgeous mountaintop to the quiet canyons below, you can trust in Aereogramme to safely lead the way. (SONIC UNYON) Jordan Rogowski
