Voodoo Blue - Smile And Nod

[4/5] They may have toyed with different styles over the years, but on their debut album, Baltimore trio VooDoo Blue roll out arena-worthy pop-punk with a tooth-decaying sense of style. And, even though Smile And Nod's coffin-tight melodies and harmonies sound a little too studio-perfect, it's easy to picture crowds pumping their fists and singing along when these guys rock out live. Those who come to Smile And Nod expecting more pop-punk tunes about broken hearts and old girlfriends may also be pleasantly surprised: Instead, you'll find a collection of lyrics discussing life's trials, tribulations and high points, powerfully delivered in a high-pitched croon, and punctuated with flecks of metal and jazz. Sure, VooDoo Blue may be getting flak from message-board haters--but so are Fall Out Boy, and look where it's gotten them. (DCide) Adam Karol
