[4/5] Bullet For My Valentine's The Poison will probably be the album of the year for all those Avenged Sevenfold fans who felt personally betrayed when M. Shadows stopped screaming and started writing big rock singles. Like Avenged Sevenfold--who open for BFMV in the U.K.--this four-man Welsh metal sensation dutifully play the Iron Maiden-goes-screamo card, grinding and blasting between a couple of obligatory sad, tender acoustic tracks. (Note to headbangers: You might want to skip the emo-damaged "All These Things I Hate [Revolve Around Me].") "Tears Don't Fall" has the album's wildest cramping-left-hand solo, ringing with harmonies of the vocal and six-string variety. When metalcore goes out of style, as it surely will, Trustkill won't need to worry: The label now has a flagship metal band.
