Real hip-hop isn’t dead.

P.O.S. - Audition

[5/5] The Minneapolis-based Rhymesayers label definitely knows its hip-hop; and from Eyedea & Abilities to Atmosphere, it's launched the careers of some of the best in the genre. The latest is P.O.S., an MC whose diverse sound comes from an equal love of punk rock and rap. The production on Audition is like no other, piling on an array of effects-heavy guitars over crunchy beats to create a perfect backing for P.O.S.' intense lyrical style. "P.O.S. Is Ruining My Life" may be the best hip-hop song heard in years, as its energy is inescapable. The album's other highlight is a unique collaboration with the Hold Steady's Craig Finn on "Safety In Numbers (Heavy Metal)." P.O.S. isn't afraid to be himself, and because of that, Audition is hip-hop at its absolute best. (RHYMESAYERS) Eddie Fleisher
