[4/5] Comes From The Heart, the Century Media debut from the angriest sounding entity to ever emerge from tranquil Rancho Santa Margarita, California, is a trip. Stick To Your Guns utilize a wide swath of ordinary hardcore influences and somehow manage to breathe life into clean-crooning, linear melodic punk, tough-guy breakdowns, youth-crew 'core and cribbed Pantera riffs-as well as lyrical themes of unity, responsibility and pride-without sounding like their goal is to appeal to everyone on MySpace. The way the band switch from a dark-alley gang-mugging ("We're What Separates The Heart From The Heartless," "Tonight's Entertainment") to anthemic punk ("Enough Is Enough") to life-affirming sing-alongs that'll start pile-ons ("Impact") is masterfully engaging and, frankly, more than a little surprising. If anything, STYG show that injecting heart, soul and fire into art can trump conventions that have been pushed to the brink of overkill.
