Islands are forever
Islands - Arm’s WayPosted by Laila Hanson on 07-Jul-08 @ 02:11 PM
[4/5]French-Canadian indie rockers Islands are back and ready to show the world why Montreal still deserves to be known as one of the continent's richest musical communities. Frontman Nick Diamond (ex-Unicorns) has taken the opportunity to compose some of his most textured and sonically diverse songs to date. While none of the songs on Arm's Way can match the pop mastery of "Rough Gem" from the band's debut Return To The Sea, this collection comes together in a much more cohesive and fluent sense. Full of ups and downs, Arm's Way doesn't shy away from quieter moments, but just before things get too bleak, "J'Amie Vous Voire Quitter" possesses enough salsa and calypso to make sure you forget the party ever slowed down. This is what Arcade Fire would sound like if they weren't afraid to have a little fun. (ANTI-) Ben Conoley Official Website: http://www.anti.com
