THE STORY SO FAR: When Evan Gonzalez tells us "everything just kind of fell into place" with his guitar/beats/cello trio, he isn't messing around. A little over a year ago, as the guitarist was looking to record a demo, he reunited with Shan Dan Horan-a friend who'd returned to Flagstaff after a recording school stint-as he worked to create a compilation of local talent. While the two collaborated on a sound that featured programmed beats over acoustic indie pop, cellist Carol Ann Hays walked in the door to record for a hip-hop track. That's when things fell into place...

WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: You've heard cello before. You've heard drum machines before. But you've never heard this. Featuring lush melodies, contagious beats and a piercingly beautiful string sound, the group have opened for the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and appeared on Steven's Unsigned Band Search on Fuse.tv without even having an EP. -Tim Karan
