After Midnight Project
HQ: Los Angeles, CANOW PLAYING: The Becoming EP THE STORY SO FAR: Jason Evigan was in a slump. It was 2004, and he was in search of a musical change from his first band Dillusion-who were featured on the Osbourne Family Album soundtrack. "I wanted to write with no one telling me, 'That's too commercial' or 'That's too weird.'" The 10 or so songs he put together were slicker and more melodic than his previous metal incarnation, and he quickly recruited members for the new project. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Aside from a stage show that includes the occasional dismemberment of a G.I. Joe or Barbie, the L.A. scenesters have discovered a sound that successfully straddles both mainstream pop and legit post-hardcore. They've opened for everyone from OK Go to Aphex Twin, and their danceable track "Take Me Home" even appears on Prey for Xbox 360. "We're like nothing you've heard before," says Evigan. "Not like much of what's streamlined into your ears." -Tim Karan YOU LIKE?
