NOW PLAYING: Via Audio EP THE STORY SO FAR:Via Audio's career trajectory has taken a fairly normal, sorta boring path thus far: Four multi-instrumentalist friends come together at Boston's Berklee College Of Music, record a self-titled EP, convince tiny Connecticut label Kill.Normal.Records to release the thing, tour around a bit, then open up their e-mail inbox one day to find a missive from Death Cab For Cutie guitarist Chris Walla telling the band how great they were. Oh, wait--it gets better. Next, band member Jessica Martins passes the band's CD to Spoon drummer/producer Jim Eno, who then flips over the band and invites them to record their debut LP this June, all with no label backing. Yeah, this band really needs our help. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: "There is also no one person that is Via Audio," says David Lizmi. "We all write songs for the band and all take turns playing different instruments. Although we are an indie-pop band, everyone comes from different scenes, and the result is a more diverse sound. Tom [Deis] almost exclusively listens to '90s grunge; Jess listens to indie rock; Danny [Molad] is into '60s melodic rock; and I listen to world music." What sounds like a recipe for disaster is more a formula for creativity: The band's new demos sound like the orchestral pop of Matt Pond PA slamming headfirst into the bleep-and-boop emotion of the Postal Service, in a good way. Why aren't they signed yet? --Scott Heisel YOU LIKE? YOU'LL LIKE: Rilo Kiley / Death Cab For Cutie / Matt Pond PA Official Website: http://www.viaaudio.net
