HQ: Cleveland, OH NOW PLAYING: Ohio's City THE STORY SO FAR: Tired of the Philadelphia scene, guitarist Matt Whelihan moved to Cleveland in 2006 to join his college roommate, drummer/vocalist Andy Bindernagel. Along with gutarist/vocalist Jon Rybicki (Karate For Kids), they pulled from their previous bands' experiences to hone their explosive yet melodic punk chops with Vietnam Werewolf. "We like to think of ourselves as a pop-punk band but with an added sense of aggression--an aggression a lot of punk bands seem to forget," explains Whelihan. WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Having added a bass player--Tim Gill--and recorded their first full-length, Ohio's City, VW have opened for Latterman, Jena Berlin and the Gaslight Anthem. Things might be getting serious, but they're retaining their humor. "We might be playing some pretty aggressive songs, but we also like to joke around," says Whelihan. "Three of us live in a purple mansion, and we have a hip-hop side project. How many punk bands do you know who can say that?" [RL] YOU LIKE? YOU'LL LIKE: BEAR VS.
