HQ: Sacramento, CA
NOW PLAYING: Middle Class Rut EP (myspace.com/mcrut)
THE STORY SO FAR: Nobody can say they didn't give status quo a shot. During the 12 years they've played together, Zack Lopez (vocals, guitar) and Sean Stockham (drums, vocals) tried being in a standard four-piece. It just wasn't happening. "We started off as a two-piece and gradually added different singers and bass players," says Lopez. "After too many years wasted with lineups that would never work, we scaled back down."
WHY YOU SHOULD KNOW 'EM: Sure, it's mind-blowing to witness the sheer depth and complexity of the sound these two guys are capable of unleashing on their own (as you might have seen on their recent tour with the Receiving End Of Sirens and Envy On The Coast), but once the novelty subsides, you're left with incendiary post-rock with visible traces of '90s alterna-rock (Filter, Jane's Addiction). "Us being just two guys isn't an attempt to be a hip indie band," says Lopez. "If people are looking for raw, honest energy, they'll be into this band." [TJK]
